Feeding baby turtles in a separate container?

...t of them. But it's so messy. Will they ever associate that container with feeding time? Do I have to completely stop feeding them in their tank (I really don't want to starve baby turtles who are growing)? How long can it take for them to get used to eating in the container? I want to wait for them...
